Our Story

When it comes to health, we often concern ourselves with what we put in our bodies while neglecting what we put on our bodies. The skin is our largest organ but one that is often overlooked. The average person exposes themselves to a wide range of synthetic chemicals and toxins such as phthalates, sodium lauryl sulfate, parabens, aluminum based compounds, and more through the everyday use of hygiene and beauty products in addition to environmental pollutants. The synthetic ingredients, commonly found in skincare, are known carcinogens that wreak havoc on three of the body's main organ systems; the immune, reproductive, and endocrine systems as they accumulate within the body. On the contrary organic skincare products are nutrient-rich, void of artificial fillers, thickeners, and perservatives, and are made with ingredients grown and produced using sustainable practices with no harsh chemicals, pesticides, or fertilizers. When you make the switch and choose organic skin care, you are opting for ingredients that work in harmony with the body, allowing the skin to maintain it's natural balance, heal better, and protect the body just as nature intended.

My own journey into organic, homemade, bath and skin care began several years ago when I was on the search for products to nourish and balance my children's sensitive, often dry, and eczema-prone skin. Growing up I often heard my father, whose distant relatives were Siddha medicine practicioners or vaithiyars, reminisce and marvel over the effectiveness and health benefits of traditional skin and hair care practices as well as herbal medicines and oils that treated a variety of skin ailments including eczema. Although a lot of the indigenous knowledge has been lost, I resorted to learning as much as I could about ancient ingredients found in the Eastern parts of the world and age-old routines practiced by my Thamizh ancestors. I, then slowly incorporated these ingredients and practices into our daily lives in the form of bath and body products made with love and care right in my small kitchen. Our skin thanked us by becoming hydrated, radiant, smooth, and essentially healthy so much so that many noticed and asked for our "secret" to healthy skin and hair. I am happy to be sharing what I've learned through my line of organic products from creams, and vapour rubs to deodorants and more via Devi Wellness Company; named in honour of my heritage and culture which worships Earth and nature as a devi/goddess and my own two little goddesses who've inspired this new chapter.
