Masala Tea Recipe
Serving: 2
Ingredients:
- 1.5 cups of water
- 1.5 cups of milk
- 3 Black Tea bags
- 4 teaspoons of sugar
- 2 Cardamom pods
- 2 tsp masala tea powder mix
- 1 inch piece of crushed ginger
Directions:
Bring 1.5 cups water, 3 strong black tea bags, 2 cardamon pods, and 2 teaspoons of Devi Wellness Company masala tea mix to a boil and let it simmer for at least 5 minutes so the spice profile develops.
Add 1.5 cup full fat milk and let it come to a boil. Simmer for another 5 mintues until the colour develops.
Add a freshly crushed piece of ginger and sugar to your liking.
Turn off the stove and let the tea sit for 5 minutes before straining into a cup.
Notes:
Always use 1 tea bag or 1.5-2 tsp of loose tea leaf per cup of liquid. A strong black tea like Assam black tea is preferred for a bold flavour.
Usually 1-2 tsp of sugar per person or cup of tea is required to balance the spices. Adjust accordingly.
When making a standard cup, whole milk is best for a creamy texture. Alternatively use 2 cups of water and 1 cup of evaporated milk for a more rich and creamy cup of tea.
Adding fresh ginger added at end perserves its aromatic compounds and controls bitterness that may result due to boiling ginger for too long.
When straining, do so from a bit of height to help aerate the tea for a creamy and frothy cup of tea.
