10 Tips to Keep Your Face Hydrated & Glowing this Winter
If you have been experiencing dry, flaky or dull skin, this post is for you. Here are 10 ways to keep your skin hydrated and glowing this winter season.
1. Wash your face with warm water and do not pat dry completely. The key to retaining moisture is to moisturize while your face is still damp.
2. Choose richer products that will support the skin barrier like peptides, ceramides, and humectants such as hyaluronic acid, glycerin, and squalene.
3. When doing skincare, layer your products from thinnest to thickest to trap in that moisture.
4. Focus on hydrating ingredients and not just the thickest cream, especially if you have acne prone skin.
5. Avoid products with alcohol, fragrance, or harsh exfoliants, which can increase dryness.
6. Use a mild cleanser so natural oils aren't stripped from your face. If your face feels tight after washing it, your cleanser is too harsh for your skin. Cream-based or oil based cleansers work best in winter.
7. Use a mild, brightening mask once a week to help exfoliate and brighten your skin. Look for ingredients like wild turmeric, orange peel, rose, and lactic acid. Our Adithya Herbal Face Mask is great for all skin types. When mixed with yogurt (which contains lactic acid), it becomes a great and all organic way to exfoliate while brightening.
8. Try an easy DIY mask like a rice mask made by blending cooked rice and water. Add honey, turmeric, or rose water for extra benefits.
9. Stay hydrated by drinking adequate water. If your skin is dehydrated, drinking water will make a huge difference. However, if it is dry and flaky, it most likely needs oil-based skincare.
10. Nutrition plays a huge part in the health of your skin. A lack of vitamins A, B2, B3, and B12, vitamin D, vitamin E, zinc, iron, and Omega 3 and 6 can all lead to dry, flaky, and even scaly skin. If you have tried everything and nothing is making a difference, it might be worthwhile to visit your family doctor and address any possible deficiencies.
